HERE WE GO!
COST
The Sleepy Caboose is free to enter and participate in. That being said, we’re strongly encouraging a sliding-scale donation of $30-100 to an organization of the participants choice. Preferably, a local organization!
Either…
– a QTBIPOC-run community organization
– an organization that is devoted to removing barriers to cycling and access to the outdoors
– a climate change or environmental conservation organization
Here’s a few organizations that we like, but feel free to pick your own:
Colour The Trails
Kickstand Community Bikeshop
Our Community Bikes
HUB Cycling
The Bike Kitchen
FVMBA
Bikepacking Roots BIPOC Bike Adventure Grant
This concept is taken directly from Evergreen Gravel Racing, who is based in Olympia, WA (Steh-Chass territory). In their words:
I encourage folks to donate in lieu of an entry fee because I think it’s important to support organizations whose work centers equity, especially equity in sport, outdoor access, and cycling, and one of the easiest ways to do that is through direct and ongoing financial support. If you’re not in a position to make a donation of that size, that’s okay, you can still participate in the race.
